Very fine English Gentleman's Dressing Table Box manufactured by famous 19th
Century English box maker J J Mechi, of 4 Leadenhall Street, London.
Box made from rosewood, with brass mountings in a simple style typical of Regency
pieces, dating this box between 1830 and 1840. Dimensions are 12 1/2" wide;
8 1/2" deep; and 5" high. Inside trays are leather covered. Box lining
is very fine deep blue velvet Fabric is deep blue velvet.
Box is in exquisite shape inside and out; and is complete with all bottles, brushes,
and grooming tools intact. There is a mirror inside the leather lid compartment.
Tops on bottles appear to be silver plate. Center compartment tray of grooming
tools has leather cover.
Box manufactured by John Joseph Mechi (1802- 1888) a highly regarded manufacturer
and vendor of cutlery, razors and fitted boxes. Mechi made a fortune selling
his "magic razor strop" (included in this set!).
You will look far and wide to find another Regency period gentleman's box by
Mechi complete, in a condition as fine as this one, AND with its original key!
