Great original ink drawing of San Francisco Powell - Market Street Cable Car
signed in pencil Arthur Palmer.
Scene appears to be looking down the hill on Taylor Street if my recollection
is correct (although it may be Powell Street). From the automobiles and style
of clothes, it appears to be sometime between the late 1930s and 1950. Note there
are no women in the scene.
Ink drawing is 8" x 9-1/2". Matted under glass and framed in simple
contemporary style black frame with gold lines, it measures 13-3/4" x 16-1/4".
It has not been re-framed recently; frame appears to date to the 1960s or earlier.
We are not familiar with the artist but the style is first rate; perhaps he was
a cartoonist for one of the San Francisco newspapers.
In any event, it is a great image that takes me back to earlier days when I rode
the cars down this very hill. This one is very difficult to part with.
