This hand-carved spoon (18" end-to-end) is much larger than it appears in
our pictures. The bowl is 5" long; 3-1/2" in diameter; and 1-1/2" deep.
And it has an exquisite tiger maple finish with scribed lines and stars on the
top of the handle. A carved branch notch in the lower side is shaped into a hook
for hanging.
This outstanding spoon came from the Ridgeway House, a wonderful period colonial
home in Plainfield CT, that was featured in "Country Living" just a
few years ago. Mrs. Ridgeway spent a lifetime filling this great house with wonderful
18th and early 19th Century Americana, which was sold at auction last summer
after her passing.
This could easily be an early 19th century spoon, but we cannot say for sure.
What we can say for sure is this is absolutely the best (and the biggest) wooden
spoon we have found.
