Wonderful images of old European peasant man drinking wine and his bemused peasant
wife. These original sepia ink drawings signed Lemont are very finely drawn (see
close-ups).
7" x 9-1/2" drawings are laid down on paper. Framed in 11" x 13-1/2" fabulous
original matching gessoed frames with very finely detailed flowers and leaves
carved around the face of the frame. Paint is old and yellowing (maybe lead-based).
Many crack and chips only add to the uniqueness of these matching ink drawings.
This is original shabby chic!!
Purchased from the Rhode Island estate of a woman who lived in Newport at one
time. This woman traveled all over the globe and for years purchased art and
collectibles wherever she went. These drawings appear to date to the 1920s-1930s,
and are probably French or Italian in origin.
