Dipper making was a craft related to box-making. In both process soaking or steaming a thin strip of wood until it was flexible and could be bent around a mold. Dippers were used to measure dry products. This dipper came from a private Boston collection sold at auction in New Lebanon, NY in 2002. It measures 4-1/4" x 7-1/4". It is made of oak, the bottom is pine and it still has its natural finish. A lovely piece.
