This wooden Shaker bucket (9” high; 12” diameter) from the Mount Lebanon, NY Community comes with a peg & sap bung. It was most likely used by community members to collect maple sap at sugaring time in the spring. The inside is in original yellow paint and shows evidence of use. The outside is in great condition with original red paint, a brown wooden handle grip (black on the lower surface from frequent use), and very clean diamond echelons firmly holding the wire handle in place.
Provenance for this piece is strong. It is one of several selected items from a private Shaker collection from Lenox, MA (about 10 miles from the Hancock, MA Shaker Community) sold at auction in Mt Lebanon, NY in 2002.
