This “Rochester” is 25” long x 15” wide by 12” high to the rim. It has a matching copper top (no always found with a copper boiler) that adds 2” to the top of the lid handle. Handles are solidly attached, and wooden handle grips intact and in good condition. The lid handle has slots allowing it to be hung on the rim of the boiler. The Rochester’s “rigid bottom” was apparently considered a selling point in its day. Definitely not a reproduction; it has a dent here and there to prove a good useful life.
Sides and “rigid bottom” show some copper corrosion (“greening”) that can be polished out. Attached steel handles show surface rust that has discolored copper in places, and can be removed if desired.
To “clean-up” or not --- that’s always the question with old copper pieces. Some like them bright and shiny; others want the tarnished look. We chose to leave this one as is, so you can make this country decorative piece look the way you want it to look.
